Bali airport to Seminyak: taxi, Grab or private transfer

Ten kilometres that take twenty minutes at midnight and well over an hour at 5pm. What each ride costs, where to find it, and which one to take for the hour you land.

From Bali airport to Seminyak is about 10 km and costs IDR 110,000 to 250,000 for the car, roughly US$6 to US$14 or C$9 to C$20, whether you take Grab, the fixed-price airport taxi or a driver booked ahead. The drive takes 20 minutes at night and up to an hour and a quarter at rush hour.

Denpasar airport is the same place as Bali airport, Ngurah Rai, code DPS, and Seminyak is one of the closest places to stay from it. Fares and times checked in October 2026, at 1 US$ = IDR 18,182 and 1 C$ = IDR 12,820.

To have a driver waiting when you clear customs, book before you fly. Three transfers worth it, priced per car:

Bali airport to Seminyak price: taxi, Grab or private transfer

Per car, not per person. Between the cheapest and the dearest normal option there is less than US$10, so the hour you land and the bags you carry matter more than the fare.

The airport publishes no official fare list online, and the guides that quote one disagree by up to double. The ranges above are what travellers and transfer companies reported paying in 2026. The price on the counter board, or in the app, is the one that counts.

Bali airport to Seminyak taxi fare: the fixed-price counter

Right after customs, before you walk out into the arrivals hall, the airport taxi counter sells rides at a fixed price for each zone. Seminyak costs around IDR 150,000 to 250,000 in a sedan, US$8 to US$14. South Seminyak, around Jalan Dhyana Pura and Double Six, is at the bottom of the range, and Petitenget and the Kerobokan border at the top. You pay first, get a ticket and are walked to the car. No meter, no haggling, and the price is the same at 2am.

Use the counter, not the men between it and the door. The drivers asking "transport, taxi?" on the way out start at IDR 300,000 or more for Seminyak. You can talk them down, but you will end up paying more than the counter for the privilege of negotiating after a long flight.

If you do end up with one, agree a price to the door before the bags go in the boot, and do not go above IDR 300,000 to 350,000 for Seminyak. Some will ask for more on arrival, for fuel or a "parking fee". The agreed price was the price: say so calmly and pay it. The counter ticket avoids the whole conversation, though even its drivers sometimes push a day tour on the way. A polite no is enough.

Can I use Grab at Bali airport to get to Seminyak?

Yes. Some older guides still say Grab is banned at the airport. In 2026 it is not. Grab has a waiting lounge in the ride-hailing pickup zone, in the parking building across from the arrivals exit, and Gojek picks up nearby. A car to Seminyak usually prices at IDR 110,000 to 200,000, US$6 to US$11, with the airport exit fee of about IDR 10,000 normally already in the fare shown.

The catch is the walk. Drivers cannot stop at the arrivals kerb, so you push your trolley five to ten minutes to the pickup zone. Set the pickup point to the airport zone, not your GPS dot, or the driver gets sent somewhere they are not allowed to stop. You also need data to book, and an eSIM such as Airalo's Indonesia plan connects while the plane taxis in, so you can order the car from the immigration queue. Partner link.

Grab is the cheapest car to Seminyak most of the day. When a wave of flights lands together, or it rains, surge pricing pushes it up to counter level, and the counter wins because you do not have to cross the car park.

Bluebird metered taxi from Bali airport to Seminyak

Bluebird is the metered taxi company locals use, and on the meter Seminyak costs about IDR 100,000 to 150,000. The problem is getting one. Bluebird cars drop passengers upstairs at departures and are not allowed to wait for fares at arrivals. Some travellers take the lift up and catch one that has just emptied, and sometimes airport staff move the driver on. Treat it as a bonus, not a plan, and insist on the meter. The same cars can be booked through the Gojek app as Go BlueBird.

Bali airport to Seminyak private transfer

A driver booked ahead tracks your flight and waits in the arrivals hall with your name on a board. For a sedan to Seminyak expect IDR 230,000 to 400,000, US$13 to US$22 or C$18 to C$31. A 12-seat van for a group costs around IDR 600,000. Most Seminyak villas and hotels offer the same service, often at the top of the range, and some charge it to the room.

On a 10 km run it is rarely the cheapest option. It earns its price when you land late, when you are four with big cases, or when your villa is down a lane a Grab driver will not find. The Seminyak transfer at the top of the page includes two hours of free waiting after landing, which covers a slow immigration queue. To keep the car for the rest of the day, book a private driver by the day instead.

Finding your driver in the Bali airport arrivals hall

Pre-booked drivers wait outside the terminal doors, behind a long barrier, holding boards with names on them. There can be a hundred of them, and the touts work the same stretch. Get the driver's WhatsApp number before you fly, message when you clear customs, and if you cannot see each other, send a photo of where you are standing. It works faster than any description. Then walk slowly along the barrier: your driver will spot you before you pick your name out of the crowd.

Is there a bus from Bali airport to Seminyak?

Not one that gets you there. The Trans Metro Dewata public buses cost IDR 4,400 a ride and leave from the airport towards Ubung terminal, but no route reaches Seminyak: you would still need a car from Kuta for the last few kilometres, which costs most of what a Grab from the terminal would. The Kura-Kura tourist shuttle runs between Kuta and Seminyak but does not stop at the airport. For a 10 km ride with luggage, the car wins every time.

Searches for a ferry or a train from Bali airport to Seminyak turn up announcements, not timetables. A water taxi and an underground rail line towards Seminyak and Canggu have been planned, but neither carries passengers in 2026.

How long does it take from Bali airport to Seminyak?

Twenty minutes at night, half an hour on a quiet morning, an hour or more when Kuta and Sunset Road jam in the late afternoon. And the clock starts at the kerb, not when the wheels touch down.

How far is Seminyak from Bali airport?

About 10 km by road, a little less to the south end of Seminyak and a little more to Petitenget. Leaving the airport, the road heads north to the Simpang Siur junction at the edge of Kuta, the big roundabout with the Dewa Ruci statue in the middle and the underpass beneath it. From there drivers take Sunset Road, the wide road that runs inland parallel to the beach, and turn off west towards the sea at your street. When Sunset Road is solid, some cut through Kuta and Legian instead.

There is no toll road to Seminyak. The Bali Mandara toll road out of the airport goes the other way, to Nusa Dua and Benoa, so do not let a driver add it to the fare.

The quiet window is 9.30am to 3pm, the bad one 4pm to 7pm, when Denpasar commuters, airport traffic and Seminyak's one-way streets all meet. Public holidays and the Christmas weeks push every line down a row.

A Kuta back street in the late afternoon. When Sunset Road jams, this is the shortcut, and it jams too.

Before any of that comes the airport itself. Allow 45 minutes to an hour and a half between the aircraft door and the car, more when several long-haul flights land together. The Bali airport arrival guide times each queue, and an e-VOA bought before the flight is the one thing that reliably shortens them.

What is the best way to get from DPS to Seminyak?

Five common ways to arrive, and the ride that fits each.

A couple landing in the day with two cases

Grab. The cheapest car, ten minutes of walking to the pickup zone is no hardship in daylight, and you are at the hotel in half an hour. Budget about US$8 to US$10.

Anyone landing after 10pm

The taxi counter, or a pre-booked transfer if your villa is hard to find. The road is empty, so the ride is short whatever you take, and the counter saves you the car park crossing at midnight.

A family of four with big suitcases

A pre-booked car or van. A standard Grab or counter sedan will not take four big cases, and taxis and apps do not guarantee child seats. Ask for them when you book the transfer.

Solo, travelling light, watching the budget

Grab in a car, or a GrabBike if you really only have a backpack. The bus does not reach Seminyak, so it saves nothing once you add the car from Kuta.

Surfers and groups of five or more

A pre-booked van. No Grab car takes a board, and two cars mean two pickups and two drop-offs at the same villa. A 12-seat van runs around IDR 600,000. Mention the boards when you book.

Bali airport to Seminyak at night

Most flights from Australia land in the evening or around midnight, and that is the easiest time to do this drive. Between 10pm and 6am Seminyak is 20 to 25 minutes away. The slow part is the terminal: when several flights land together, immigration and the bags take longer than the road.

The counter price does not change at night, which makes it the default after 10pm. Grab still works, but you walk across a dark car park to find it and the fare drifts up when everyone off your flight opens the app at once. If you pre-book, do not ask the driver to come at your landing time: with free waiting included, give the flight number and let them track it.

Bali airport to Seminyak with luggage and surfboards

A standard Grab or taxi sedan takes two large suitcases and a couple of carry-ons. Three people with three big cases is a squeeze. Four does not fit. Book a GrabCar XL, or say how many bags you have when you book a transfer, so the right car turns up. Count the cases, not just the passengers.

Surfboards and bike boxes go in a van. Grab drivers will refuse them and the counter sedans have no roof racks. Porters at the terminal expect a tip if they take your trolley, so keep IDR 20,000 to 50,000 in small notes, or wave them off politely if you would rather push it yourself.

Where you get dropped in Seminyak: north, south and the gangs

Seminyak is a strip about two kilometres long, and which end you are staying at changes the ride. South Seminyak, around Double Six and Jalan Dhyana Pura, is closest to the airport and to Kuta. North Seminyak, around Jalan Kayu Aya, Petitenget and the beach clubs, adds ten to twenty minutes at rush hour because the last stretch is on narrow one-way streets.

A lot of villas are not on a road at all but at the end of a gang, a lane too narrow for a car. The driver stops at the corner and you walk the rest, often past parked scooters and an open drain. Ask the villa before you arrive whether someone can meet you at the road with the bags. Most will.

Bali airport to Canggu: what changes past Seminyak

Canggu is the same road, only longer. You go through Seminyak and Kerobokan and keep heading north west, for 14 to 18 km depending on whether you are staying in Berawa, Batu Bolong or Pererenan. That puts it at 40 minutes early in the morning or late at night, and 90 minutes to two hours in the late afternoon, because the Seminyak jam is followed by two more in Kerobokan and Berawa.

In 2026 the counter charges around IDR 200,000 to 350,000, US$11 to US$19 or C$16 to C$27, and Grab IDR 180,000 to 260,000, US$10 to US$14, more in a surge. Pre-booked transfers, like the Canggu one at the top of the page, start around US$26 (C$37). On a longer drive the gap between the options shrinks, and a driver who already knows your lane is worth more: Canggu villas are even harder to find than Seminyak ones. The Canggu guide explains how its villages fit together.

Seminyak to Bali airport: when to leave for your flight

The same road in reverse, with a deadline at the end. Airlines ask for three hours at the terminal for an international flight, and the drive has to fit before that.

Seminyak to Bali airport: when to leave Seminyak for an international flight
Your flight leavesLeave SeminyakExample
6am to 10am3 h 45 before8am flight, leave at 4.15am
10am to 3pm4 h 15 before1pm flight, leave at 8.45am
3pm to midnight4 h 30 before7pm flight, leave at 2.30pm
After midnight3 h 45 before1am flight, leave at 9.15pm

International flights, three hours at the terminal included. For a domestic flight, take an hour off. From Canggu, add 30 minutes to every line.

The evening departures are the ones people miss. A 7pm flight means driving through the 4pm to 7pm jam, and the last few kilometres around Kuta and the airport junction can take longer than everything before them. For any flight after 3pm, be on the road by 2.30pm, and eat at the airport if you are early.

Going back, Grab is easy to book from your door and costs about the same as the trip out, and app cars drop at departures without restriction. For a pre-dawn flight, book it the night before or ask the hotel. The short airport run is also the case for spending your last night in Seminyak rather than in Ubud, two hours away: the Bali airport to Ubud guide shows what that drive looks like at 5pm.

Bali airport to Seminyak: the questions people ask

Answers as at October 2026. Fares move with fuel prices and demand, so treat every figure here as a range, not a quote.

How much is a taxi from Bali airport to Seminyak?
The official taxi counter in the arrivals hall sells fixed-price rides by zone, and Seminyak costs around IDR 150,000 to 250,000 for a sedan in 2026, about US$8 to US$14 or C$12 to C$20, per car and not per person. The north end of Seminyak, towards Petitenget, sits at the top of that range. The drivers who approach you before the exit open higher, so buy the ticket at the counter.
How far is Seminyak from Bali airport?
About 10 km by road, a little less to the south end of Seminyak around Jalan Dhyana Pura and a little more to Petitenget in the north. The route runs north past Kuta through the Simpang Siur junction, then up Sunset Road or through Legian. It takes 20 to 30 minutes when the road is clear and 45 to 75 minutes at rush hour.
Can I use Grab at Bali airport?
Yes. Grab and Gojek both pick up at Ngurah Rai in 2026, but not at the arrivals kerb: you meet the driver in the ride-hailing pickup zone in the parking building across from the terminal, where Grab has a waiting lounge. A car to Seminyak usually prices at IDR 110,000 to 200,000, about US$6 to US$11, with the airport exit fee normally included in the fare shown.
Are taxis expensive in Bali?
Not by Australian, American or Canadian standards. The airport counter to Seminyak costs about what a ten-minute taxi ride costs at home, and Grab rides around Seminyak itself run IDR 30,000 to 100,000. What makes taxis feel expensive in Bali is the unofficial drivers in the arrivals hall, who open at two or three times the counter price.
Is there a Bluebird taxi from Bali airport to Seminyak?
Bluebird drops passengers at the departures level and is not allowed to queue for fares at arrivals. Some travellers walk up to departures and catch one that has just dropped off, which costs around IDR 100,000 to 150,000 on the meter to Seminyak, but it is not guaranteed and airport staff sometimes move the drivers on. Ask for the meter to be switched on.
Is there a bus from Bali airport to Seminyak?
Not directly. The Trans Metro Dewata public bus costs IDR 4,400 and runs from the airport towards Ubung, but no route reaches Seminyak, so you would still need a car for the last stretch. There is no ferry or train either: the water taxi and rail line discussed for the airport are projects, not services, in 2026.
How long does it take from Bali airport to Canggu?
About 40 minutes early in the morning or late at night and 90 minutes to two hours in the late afternoon, for 14 to 18 km depending on which village you are staying in. The road goes through Seminyak and Kerobokan, so the Seminyak rush hour is the Canggu rush hour too, plus another two jams in Berawa and on the way into Batu Bolong.
Do you tip the driver from Bali airport to Seminyak?
It is not expected on a Grab or a counter taxi, where rounding up is enough. For a pre-booked driver who waited through a slow immigration queue or carried your bags down a lane, IDR 20,000 to 50,000 in cash is a normal thank you. Keep a few small notes for the porters too.
How early should I leave Seminyak for Bali airport?
Around four and a half hours before an evening international flight, which means leaving Seminyak by 2.30pm for a 7pm departure, because the drive can take over an hour between 4pm and 7pm. For a morning flight, three and three quarter hours is enough. Both include the three hours airlines ask for at the terminal.
