An ATV ride in Ubud is an hour to an hour and three quarters on a private track in the hills north and east of Ubud: jungle, mud, a river crossing, sometimes a tunnel or a waterfall, with lunch and a shower at the end. What you pay depends on how many quads your group takes, so set that first.
The quad itself is the same price wherever you sleep. What changes is the transfer, since every track sits in the hills north or east of Ubud.
| Pickup from | Drive to the track | Transfer, per person |
|---|---|---|
| Ubud | 20 to 40 min | Free to $5 |
| Seminyak, Canggu, Kuta | 1 h 15 to 1 h 45 | $8 to $15 |
| Uluwatu, Nusa Dua | 1 h 45 to 2 h 15 | $12 to $20 |

Which ATV is best in Ubud? The tracks compared
Every operator claims the best ATV ride in Ubud. They are really selling one of three kinds of track, and the kind matters more than the name.
| Jungle and mud | Waterfall and tunnel | Carved cave | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What you ride | Forest, bamboo, mud pits, a river, the edge of the paddies | A long, dark tunnel in single file and a waterfall stop | A shorter loop ending at a cave with a giant carved face |
| Riding time | 1 h 30 to 1 h 45 | About 1 h 30, with more stops | 1 h to 1 h 30 |
| Solo quad online | ≈ $30 to $45 | ≈ $40 to $60 | ≈ $35 to $55 |
| Names you will see | Jungle ATV, Beji, Payangan tracks | Kuber, Uma Anyar waterfall | Gorilla Face, Barong cave, Temple Run |
| Best for | First-timers, families, the most mud per dollar | One big memory, confident riders | The photo, a short morning |
Jungle and mud tracks
This is the classic Bali quad bike adventure, and the one we would pick for a first ride. Tracks run about 8 km through forest and bamboo, drop into a valley, cross a shallow river and finish along the dykes of the rice fields. The mud pits are the point. You will be told to keep your speed up through them, and you will still stall in one.
Because there is no single headline feature, these tracks give you the most time on the machine. They also cope best with children riding behind a parent.
ATV Ubud waterfall and long tunnel tracks
Kuber, near Tegallalang, made this format famous: a long irrigation tunnel, pitch dark apart from your headlight, followed by a waterfall where the guides stop the group for photos. Other operators have copied it. Ask anyone who has done it what they remember, and it is those ten minutes.

The price is higher, the stops take a bigger share of the ride, and the tunnel is narrow and wet. Anyone uneasy in the dark should know about it before booking.
Gorilla Face, Barong cave and Temple Run tracks
The newest tracks are built around one sight: a cave whose entrance is carved into a gorilla head or a Barong mask, or a stretch dressed up as a temple ruin. The ride is often shorter and the photo is the product. Good for a group that wants the picture and an hour of fun, less so for anyone who came to ride.

How much does ATV cost in Ubud? The real ride price
Around $30 to $60 for a solo quad booked online, lunch included. The number on the listing is rarely that one.
| Line item | Detail | Order of magnitude |
|---|---|---|
| Solo quad, booked online | One rider, one machine, guide, gear and usually lunch. Tunnel and waterfall tracks sit at the top of the range | ≈ $30 to $60 |
| Tandem quad, booked online | Two people on one machine, priced per quad or per person depending on the site | ≈ $45 to $80 |
| Published rate at the operator | Rp 1.2 to 1.4 million solo, Rp 1.6 to 1.8 million tandem, almost always discounted when you ask | ≈ $75 to $110 |
| Pickup from Seminyak, Canggu or Kuta | Included in some listings, an option at checkout on others | ≈ $8 to $15 / pers. |
| Pickup from Uluwatu or Nusa Dua | The longest transfer, and the line most often left out of the headline price | ≈ $12 to $20 / pers. |
| Photos or GoPro footage | Shot by a guide on the track and sold at the finish | ≈ $10 to $25 |
| Tip for your guide | Optional, handed over after the ride | Rp 50,000 to 100,000 |
The $16 to $22 at the top of booking sites is a tandem seat. Open the options and the solo quad is often twice that, and the pickup from your hotel is a separate line. Neither is a trick, but comparing two headline prices tells you nothing until you have picked the same options on both.
Operators publish rates of Rp 1.2 to 1.8 million on their own sites and then offer a "special price" well below it, on WhatsApp or at the gate. Booking direct can come out a little cheaper than a platform once you negotiate. What a platform gives you is a fixed price, reviews you can read, and free cancellation if the track closes after rain.
The cheapest roadside offers in Ubud tend to mean older machines, a shorter loop or a shared practice area rather than a real track. Ask how long the riding lasts, not how long the tour lasts: a "3-hour tour" can hold 60 minutes on the quad.
Single or tandem: which Bali quad bike to book
Solo means one rider per machine. Tandem means two on one quad, the driver in front and a passenger holding on behind.
Book solo if you want to drive the whole way. The quad is the fun part, and an hour and a half as a passenger is a long time to spend bouncing and watching someone else steer. Solo also makes the mud pits easier, since a lighter machine gets through with less effort.
Book tandem to save money, or if one of you would rather not drive. A tandem quad costs less than two solos, usually by $20 to $40 across the pair. Couples who both want to drive swap at the halfway stop, which most guides allow if you ask.
With children the choice is made for you. Under 12, they ride as the passenger, one child per adult driver. A family of two parents and two children therefore needs two tandem quads, and a single parent with two children needs a second adult.
Is quad biking in Bali safe? License and insurance
On an established operator's private track, for a reasonably fit adult, yes. The risks come from speed and from the insurance small print.
A proper operator gives you a helmet and boots, a short briefing, and a practice loop before the real track, where the guide watches how you handle the throttle and brake. One guide rides in front and another at the back. Most tour quads are automatic, so there is no clutch or gear to think about.
Accidents on these tracks happen in predictable places: on a downhill taken too fast, when someone tries to overtake, or when a rider puts a foot down in the mud and the quad rolls over it. Keep a gap to the quad in front, keep your feet on the footrests, and follow the guide's line.
Do you need a license to drive a quad bike in Bali?
No. The tour tracks are private land, off the public road, so nobody asks for a driving licence. Operators set their own rules instead: drivers from 12, passengers from 6 or 7, and an upper limit around 65 that the fitter over-65s can usually talk their way past.
Bali quad biking with kids: the age rules
Passengers from 6 or 7, drivers from 12. Between the two, a child rides behind a parent.
The published minimum varies a little between operators. Some take passengers from five, most from six or seven, and nearly all set the driving age at twelve. Children's helmets and small boots are usually available, but not always in every size, so mention ages when you book.
For a family, a jungle and mud track in the morning works best. It has the fewest long stops, the guide sets the pace to the slowest quad, and you are back at the base for a shower and lunch before the midday heat. The long tunnel tracks are fine for a relaxed ten-year-old and less fun for a nervous six-year-old.
What to wear for quad biking in Bali: plan for the mud
You will come back covered, from your boots to your ears. Dress for that and the rest is easy.
- Old, dark clothes. Anything light-coloured will not come clean. Some operators lend overalls, but not all.
- Long, light trousers or shorts. Shorts are fine. Trousers keep the splash and the heat of the exhaust off your calves.
- Closed shoes, or the boots they lend you. Flip-flops are not allowed. Most bases have rubber boots in a row by the lockers, which saves your trainers.
- A full change of clothes. Including underwear. Showers, soap and towels are at the base, and the drive back is in a clean car.
- Sunglasses or the helmet visor. Mud flies up from the quad in front. Keep your distance and less of it reaches your face.
- Your phone in the locker. Unless you have a chest mount. The guide usually takes photos at the stops.
The season changes the ride more than the outfit. From November to March the tracks are at their muddiest, which is what most riders want, but a heavy storm can close a track for the afternoon, so book a morning slot. From June to September the paths dry out and the ride gets dusty between the water sections. Our Bali weather by month guide covers the rest of the calendar.
ATV and white water rafting in Ubud, or ATV with the Bali swing
Most operators sell the quad as half of a day. Two pairings are worth it.
ATV and rafting
The combination every Ubud operator pushes: two hours on the Ayung and an hour and a half on the quad, one before lunch and one after, with a single pickup. It works because both happen in the same valleys north of Ubud, and because you get wet either way. Combined packages run about $60 to $90 per person, depending on solo or tandem and on your pickup zone. Our white water rafting guide explains which river to choose and why the steps out of the Ayung gorge are the hard part.
ATV and the Bali swing
Several jungle tracks sit close to the swing parks, so operators bundle the two as a half day. Before booking, check which Bali swing you are actually getting, since the two big parks are on opposite sides of Ubud, and a combo built around the far one spends the gap in a car.

The full-day combo
Gorilla Face ATV and Ayung River rafting with meal
- ✓Gorilla Face cave track and the Ayung in one day, with a single pickup
- ✓The headline price is for the cheapest option, so pick the full combo at checkout
- ✓Children ride tandem on the quad and raft from 6 or 7 on the Ayung
- ✓Pack two changes of clothes: one for after the mud, one for after the river

Bali quad bike adventure from Seminyak, Canggu or Uluwatu
The jungle tracks are all around Ubud. From the south, the ride comes with a long drive.
From Seminyak, Canggu or Kuta, the tracks are one hour fifteen to one hour forty five away, so pickups start around 7 am. From Uluwatu or Nusa Dua, add another half hour each way. Book a listing that includes pickup from your area, or plan the quad for the day you move up to Ubud, with your bags in the car.
A few operators also run quads on the black sand beaches west of Canggu. It is closer and the sunset is a bonus, but the ride is flatter and shorter, and there is no mud or jungle. If the jungle is what you came for, make the drive.
