Bali weather in February
The quietest month of the Bali year and the cheapest. You accept the sky in exchange, and for some trips that is a very good deal.
February is the emptiest month on Bali and the cheapest, with around 275 mm of rain over roughly eighteen days and the most boat cancellations of the year. Temperature sits at 30 °C, as it does in every month.
It is the one month where you can have famous places genuinely to yourself, and pay under half what the same room costs in July. That is the entire argument for February, and it is a stronger one than the tour operator pages let on, because they have nothing to sell you in it.

Orders of magnitude measured on the south coast, which is where every published average for Bali comes from. Ubud runs wetter and cooler at night, and above a thousand metres none of it applies.

Is February a good time to visit Bali
Yes, for the trip nobody sells
February is the best value month of the year, by a distance. The island is soaked green, the waterfalls are at their most spectacular, and the sites that define a Bali trip are quiet enough to actually see.
It is a bad month for a beach holiday and a bad month for the islands. February brings more consecutive grey days than any other month, which is the one genuine weather complaint about it, and the boats to Nusa Penida cancel more often now than at any other point in the year.
Is February right for your trip
February separates travellers more cleanly than any other month. If your trip is built around the interior, it is excellent. If it is built around water, it is not.
Diving in February
Avoid, if you have a choice
Avoid month for this
The worst combination of the year: turbid water, the most cancellations on the crossing, and visibility around ten metres at sites that give thirty in September. The reef itself is unchanged and the mantas are resident year round, so nothing is missing except the ability to see it and to get there.
Surfing in February
East coast, and quiet
Fine month for this
The Bukit reefs are blown out most days by onshore wind, but the east coast works and nobody is on it. Sanur, Nusa Dua and Keramas pick up the swell with offshore mornings. February is a genuinely good month to surf Bali if you are prepared to drive to conditions instead of to a famous name.
Families in February
The hardest month
Poor month for this
Heat, the heaviest humidity of the year, an afternoon downpour most days and mosquitoes at their peak. Beach days are not reliable and pool days get rained off. It can work from a base with indoor options, but there are ten better months for a family trip and most of them cost only a little more.
Couples in February
Quiet in a way no other month is
Fine month for this
The specific pleasure of February is emptiness. A rice terrace with nobody on it, a temple courtyard you have to yourself, rain on a valley roof in Ubud after dark. You will not get that in any dry season month at any price, and here it costs the least.

The lowest prices of the year
The best month for this
Nothing else is close. A February room can cost less than half a July one for the same place, flights out of Australia and Europe are at their annual low, and tours run with space on them. That gap buys a lot of tolerance for a wet afternoon, and it is the single strongest reason to consider this month.
Waterfalls in February
At their most spectacular
The best month for this
Every fall on the island is at full volume. Tegenungan and Kanto Lampo are three times the volume they carry in September. The water is brown and you cannot swim in it, and the descent paths are slick clay. Worth going for the sight, with proper shoes.

Only if the budget decides
Poor month for this
A first trip usually means a fixed list and a fixed number of days, and February is the month most likely to take one of those days away. April and October give you the same island with far more certainty for a moderate premium. Choose February when the price gap is what makes the trip possible at all.
February is not one month
February is the most uniform month of the year: the weather, the prices and the crowds barely move across it. The one thing that does move is Chinese New Year, which lands somewhere between late January and mid February and shifts every year.

What February does badly

Full volume, and brown
The falls are at their most impressive and the pool below them is silt. Wet season swimming is a photograph, not a swim.
Two things, and both are about water. The crossings to the Nusa islands are cancelled more often in February than in any other month, sometimes on the morning itself. An island day booked in February is an intention, not a plan.
The second is that February brings the year's highest chance of several grey days in a row. The usual wet season pattern of a bright morning and an afternoon hour holds most of the time, but the exception clusters here. Two washed out days inside a ten day trip is a real possibility.
Neither is a reason to write the month off. Both are reasons not to build the trip around Nusa Penida or around a beach.
Booking around February
In February the thing worth paying for is not the tour, it is the exit. Free cancellation is the whole product this month, and an operator who calls off a crossing on sea state is doing you a favour, not losing you a day.

The month the sky decides
Free cancellationBali day tours, with cancellation that holds
- ✓Free cancellation on most listings, right up to the day before
- ✓Pre dawn departures, the only version of a sunrise trip that beats the cloud
- ✓Operators who cancel a crossing on sea state rather than let you find out at the pier
- ✓Small group tours actually run in the quiet season, rather than being cancelled for numbers
